Define the question before collecting evidence
Which small set of repeatable measurements can answer a defined question? Write the question in one sentence and identify the observation that would answer it. This keeps the investigation from becoming a collection of unrelated photographs and readings.
Read the mechanism in context
A room can feel cold even when the air temperature seems normal because large cold surfaces change radiant heat exchange. The visible clue may be delayed or displaced by storage, airflow, temperature, material interfaces or occupant behavior, so location and timing must be interpreted together.
Build a minimum useful dataset
Record the location, dimensions, date, weather, indoor conditions, equipment state and one unaffected reference point. Repeat the same observation with the same instrument and placement. Keep raw values and photographs rather than only a conclusion.
Evidence that strengthens the pathway
