What the measurement represents

Write the measured quantity, units, stated accuracy and relevant range. Separate direct measurement from calculated or inferred information. Do not use a display label, color band or app warning as proof of a concealed source.

  • Allow the stated stabilization period.
  • Use a comparison location or reference condition.
  • Synchronize the clock with photographs and weather notes.

Check batteries, zero or reference behavior where applicable. Keep the sensor away from conditions the manufacturer identifies as interference.

Interpret a trend, not a verdict

Repeat at fixed points under comparable conditions. Compare affected and unaffected areas, indoor and outdoor conditions, or before and after one controlled change. Describe uncertainty and alternative explanations.

Limits and escalation

Stop ordinary observation when there is electrical or combustion danger, sewage, unstable materials, unsafe access, rapidly spreading water, suspected hazardous material or acute occupant symptoms. Use qualified measurement when calibration, inaccessible assemblies, regulated decisions, health exposure, structural consequences or costly scope choices depend on the result.
