Cooling operation and high indoor or surrounding humidity.
4. Compare, do not assume

- Insulation gaps or air leakage surround the boot

- Water is inside the duct from another source
- Cooling is off when wetting occurs
5. Repeat only safe checks
- Record room humidity and supply temperature
- Inspect visible boot gaps without removing powered equipment
- Compare affected and unaffected registers
6. Decide the next step
If the pattern is active, expanding, safety-related or requires opening inaccessible construction, stop self-help testing and prepare an evidence-based handoff. An HVAC professional should inspect duct insulation, sealing and airflow.
7. Verify the outcome
After any action, repeat the same observation under a comparable trigger. A dry surface immediately after work is not sufficient proof when the original symptom was intermittent.
