Short downspouts, blocked drainage or negative grade load one wall with roof and surface water.
Saturated soil entering at a crack or wall-floor joint
Long-duration rain raises moisture pressure and water enters at a foundation discontinuity.
Interior plumbing or drain source
A service leak travels down a wall or across the floor and resembles groundwater entry.
Change one condition at a time.
Can water use reproduce the symptom when the weather is dry?
Yes: Prioritize plumbing and drain routes.
No: Continue with exterior runoff and soil-pressure mapping.
Is the first wet point a crack, the wall-floor joint, or the face of the wall?
Yes: Use that geometry to separate concentrated entry from broad surface wetting.
No: Improve observation timing before the water spreads.
Stop rather than create a better clue.
- Do not enter standing water where electrical circuits may be energized.
- Stop if foundation movement, sewage or rapid inflow is present.
