Use the same location, depth, instrument and environmental conditions at each reading. Compare surface recovery with concealed layers.

Do readings at fixed surface and depth points decline together over time?
Yes: The assembly shows a more credible drying trend.
No: Check for trapped layers, an ongoing source or method inconsistency.
Does the reading rebound after a specific weather or use event?
Yes: Treat the source as active or intermittent.
No: Continue controlled trend logging and compare environmental conditions.
Stop rather than create a better clue.
- Do not declare an assembly dry from one surface reading.
- Stop invasive measurement where electrical, structural or hazardous-material risks are unknown.
